I work with individuals. Sessions are set at a regular time on a weekly basis. Sessions last for fifty minutes. Every session is different because every client is different, as are their problems. I will encourage you to talk and explore, in a structured way, your feelings and experiences. I may also suggest particular techniques as part of that exploration; for example - using art, journaling, imaging or reading. You will always be able to choose if you wish to work this way. Each person is unique and 'one size' does not fit all. Whatever the technique or clinical approach, psychotherapy is not a magical cure, it is a process to help you find the capacity for improvement within yourself.
I have voicemail on my mobile and am also happy to be contacted by email. These media are useful for the business arrangements. I do not offer therapy via email but on a face-to-face basis. I can sometimes offer home visits if you are unable to attend my practice. We can agree between us at the start how contact outside of the sessions will be managed.
I adhere to the UKCP code of ethics. I treat all information disclosed to me by you as confidential, but I do share this information with my supervisor (who is also bound to keep information confidential).
If I believe that there is danger of harm either to self or others, or that a child is at risk, I reserve the right (and am legally obliged) to inform outside agencies. Wherever possible I would not do this without discussing it with you first. If you disclose information about certain criminal or terrorist offences, I have a professional obligation to tell outside agencies without informing you first. Please contact me for a copy of my privacy statement.
Payment is made at the beginning of the session. I charge £45 per 50-minute session. I do not have a waiting room so I ask that you arrive on time. If you are late arriving for a session we will end at the usual time to allow me to fulfil my other appointments for the day. I currently see Clients privately. I have previously worked within the NHS.
In principle the full fee is chargeable for any session booked and subsequently cancelled. In practice, I do my best to be flexible, and I prefer to reschedule the cancelled session to a new appointment within the next few days whenever possible. I am fully insured, CRB checked and registered under the Data Protection Act.
